Be a part of creating a mural with wool instead of paint! This project will bring people together to transform wool into symbols of healing, dreaming and building, making hearts, birds and bees. Three large wool murals will be made with the symbols made in community workshops in Grand Marais MN and Minneapolis MN from April to July, 2021.

The Community Felted Mural Project

This project began with three murals painted across the street from the burned out 3rd precinct in Minneapolis after George Floyds death. Sometimes, art is the only response in an impossibly painful situation. One year later, there are signs of positive change and people are gathering to make symbols of healing, dreaming and building as they transform wool into colorful hearts, birds and bees. These symbols made by people of all ages in Northern Minnesota and Minneapolis will be gathered and felted together into three wool murals that will hang in communities north and south.

Workshops for symbols & murals

Everyone is invited to these community making events. Come play with wool and experience how it transforms with water and agitation into a symbol you choose and learn how to needle felt a word on it. No experience is needed. Felting wool is a great example of bonding relationships and change, as your energy of agitation goes into the wool, the bonds become permanent and durable during the process of transformation.

All workshops are free thanks to a grant from Arrowhead Regional Arts Council and North House Folk School.
